Individualized Support

Mentorship is imperative in guiding the next generation of hospice and palliative medicine subspecialists, and we have a program in place to support your career planning—and your development as a physician, team member, and whole person.

Our graduates tout our mentorship as one of the most valuable experiences in our program.

Mentorship Structure

Our peer mentor group provides you with robust collegial support and faculty-guided growth in essential career skills.

You’ll also match with a faculty mentor early in your training, and meet with them regularly based on your needs. This relationship is longitudinal and can ideally evolve into a peer mentorship as you progress in your career.

You also can form relationships with mentors outside our fellowship and division through partnerships with the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, other schools at UW-Madison, and UW Health.

The Ways We Mentor You

We give you the flexibility and support to customize your learning through individualized learning plans, regular fellow-led conferences, and fellow-crafted electives.

Professional Skills Development

We help you grow through teamwork, time management, and leadership skill development—to prepare you for employment after fellowship.

Career Planning

We help you develop your career vision statement and goals, and bridge these to your tangible next steps for applications and interviews.
