Program Director

I’m so proud of the quality of our program. Our rigorous, comprehensive clinical experiences will make you an outstanding internist, no matter where your post-residency life takes you. Here, learners and faculty are partners, and we work collaboratively so that you can become the best physician you can be.

We also have a wonderful culture based on flexibility and mentorship. We personalize our training to match your individual needs and goals, provide unparalleled coaching every step of the way, and measure success by the accomplishments of our graduates.

Finally, we truly value resident well-being. We help you integrate the personal and professional parts of your life, take care of yourself, and thrive.

I’m an educator at heart. I love having longitudinal relationships with learners, teaching and modeling skills, seeing professional identities form, and celebrating long-term career successes. I look forward to getting to know you!

The practice of medicine is perhaps one of the most demanding vocations, involving dedication and sacrifice for the good of others. Our goal is to help the resident appreciate the joys and manage the challenges for his/her development into the consummate internist.

At a time when the need for well-trained internal medicine physicians has never been higher, it is rewarding to see engaged residents grow into physician leaders with the opportunities that the program offers. Working with an exciting group of faculty and residents I am reminded daily of how wonderful it is to be with people that continually achieve excellence in healthcare and education, at an institution that embraces innovation and new ideas to allow all of us to reach our full potential.

I am passionate about preparing our next generation of internists for the ever-changing landscape of primary care, while maintaining meaningful work-life balance. General internal medicine offers the opportunity for meaningful, long-term relationships with patients and patient-care teams while always providing intellectual challenge.

As a graduate of this program, my personal practice was shaped by the innovative, supportive and patient-centered culture here at UW. It is a distinct honor to care for patients while also being able to impact the growth and professional development of each resident.

Associate Program Director

Director of Residency Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

My goal is to foster a culture of inclusivity and create a sense of true belonging for residents from diverse backgrounds. I work to ensure that residents have positive, identity-affirming experiences with faculty, peers, staff, patients, and the Madison community—which further supports skill development, career progression, professional identify formation, and overall wellbeing. Together with my colleagues, I also work to identify and dismantle the barriers that individuals from historically underrepresented background in medicine and other minoritized groups can encounter during residency training.

I have had a passion for medical education ever since I was an intern. There is nothing for me like watching the light bulb go off in a learner in front of me. I feel continually grateful and lucky to have a job where I get to interact with such smart and challenging residents and students.

Bridges Family Endowed Chief Resident

I have been lucky enough to work with many former UW chief residents, including some who have stayed at UW as attendings and fellows. They are always fantastic clinicians and educators, and often credit this time as formative in the professional growth. I feel very lucky to have a similar opportunity over the course of this year. I'm looking forward to spending so much time with our residents, and hopefully getting to have a positive impact on their training.

Connecting with people one-on-one and learning people's stories are what excite me about coming to work each day. As curriculum chief, I am excited to work with residents to make our new Friday didactic days a time for valuable learning and community building. The residents and faculty here are incredibly smart, and incredibly kind. I'm so proud to be part of a program that is dedicated not only to clinical excellence, but to recognizing our patients and peers' humanity

Being a chief means I get to give back to the residency program in so many ways. Residency training is challenging everywhere, but I truly had a wonderful experience during my internal medicine residency at UW, despite all the obstacles of the COVID pandemic that affected training environments everywhere. I hope future residents of the program have a similarly great experience. I am looking forward to a year of growth and new responsibilities.

I’m excited to step into a leadership role that strives to provide our primary care residents with the skills, confidence, knowledge and mindset to grow into excellent clinician leaders who thrive in the ever-changing outpatient setting. I love the collegial environment that UW has to offer— not only among faculty teachers, but fellow residents as well!

It is a pleasure to work with the UW Internal Medicine Residency program and coordinate the elective training pathways.
