The University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Medicine provides nationally recognized, innovative medical education programs to train the next generation of physicians.
With guidance from our medical student education office, department faculty lecture in courses for students in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and also provide mentored clinical training experiences throughout the curriculum.
Our three-year internal medicine residency program provides in-depth clinical training necessary for board certification and professional practice. We also offer a dedicated primary care track, and a physician-scientist training program that consists of a fast-tracked, two-year residency plus one year of research training.
Our 22 fellowship programs provide the advanced training necessary for specialization in fields such as cardiology, gastroenterology, infectious disease or nephrology.
We also offer programs to help faculty become even better educators and to support their ongoing career development.
