Hospice and Palliative Medicine Conferences

Core Topic Conferences

Foundational teaching sessions taught by content experts spanning medical management of complex symptoms and advanced illnesses, serious‑illness communication, hospice practice, ethical and legal decision‑making, grief and spiritual care, and systems‑level HPM operations. Our Fellows-as-Teachers (FasT) sessions cover key teaching concepts and skills and foster growth of fellows’ educator preparedness.

Reflection Conference and Narrative Medicine Workshop

A cornerstone of fellow well-being, twice‑monthly sessions offer space to process the emotional realities of palliative care. Fellows explore self‑care tools and engage with core interprofessional palliative care team members to identify and build sustainable well-being and reflection practices. This includes eight sessions working with a published author and professional creative writing teacher, intended to expose fellows to reflection and processing through storytelling.

Peer Mentor Sessions

Faculty-facilitated, discussion-based sessions build fellows’ professional practice habits, career reflection strategies, and teamwork and leadership skills.

Fellow QI Curriculum

Fellows learn quality improvement principles through interactive sessions identifying, designing, implementing, assessing and discussing their own QI project(s).

Journal Club

Evidence‑based, fellow-led discussions of current literature strengthen critical appraisal skills and keep you up‑to‑date with emerging science in hospice and palliative medicine.

Case Conferences

Throughout the year, each fellow presents three case conferences—one hospice, one pediatric, and one of their choosing—highlighting complex, unique, or challenging clinical situations. These sessions aim to foster clinical reasoning schema, harness case-based learning, and interdisciplinary insights and teamwork.
