The University of Wisconsin Division of Nephrology participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the fellowship match program overseen by the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
All applicants for the fellowship program must submit their applications online through ERAS. A complete application will include:
- Completed ERAS common application form
- Three letters of recommendation (including one from your Residency Director) using the Letter of Recommendation Portal (LORP)
- USMLE transcript
- Medical School Transcript
- Updated CV
- ECFMG (for foreign medical school graduates)
- Personal Statement
- Photograph (optional)
All applicants to the Nephrology fellowship program are required to register with the NRMP.
July 6, 2022: MyERAS website opens to fellowship applicants for 2023 and applicants may start submitting applications via ERAS.
July 20, 2022: Fellowship programs start receiving applications via ERAS, invitations to interview will be extended on a rolling basis with the initial round of invitations going out no earlier than July 27, 2022.
August/September/October 2022: Applicant interviews are conducted. Interviews will be virtual this year.
November 16, 2022: Rank order lists due to NRMP.
November 30, 2022: Match Day!

Applicants must have completed residency training in internal medicine before beginning this fellowship. Applications are judged on the basis of the applicant's academic and clinical training record, letter of recommendation, and personal interviews with division faculty.

Meeting with Current Fellows
An informal meeting with current UW Nephrology fellows will be built into each interview day.

Watch a prerecorded program overview at your convenience, but prior to the live elements of the interview process.
Virtual Q&A with Program Director
After watching the prerecorded welcome and program overview, join our Program Director for a 30 minute Q&A session.
Virtual Interviews with Division Faculty
All candidates will interview with three faculty members through Zoom.
Virtual Office Hours
Optional sessions on career-specific areas of interest will be offered. These will include sessions on nephrology as a career, transplant nephrology, interventional nephrology, and research.
Virtual Fellow-Led Tour
A prerecorded virtual tour of the hospital led by current or recently graduated UW Nephrology fellows will be available to applicants.
Attend a Virtual Conference
Applicants may watch a recorded conference session and/or attend one of our conferences remotely (hosted through Zoom).
