Customized Training for the Career You Want

Considerable procedural experience in a collaborative environment gives you the skills you need for career success.

Didactic Experiences

Fellows attend shared multidisciplinary conferences with specialties such as thoracic surgery, otolaryngology, oncology, and interventional radiology. Fellows can also attend and present at didactic conferences throughout the year.

Clinical Experiences

Our clinical curriculum offers robust procedural training at UW Health University Hospital and the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. In partnership with the UW Carbone Cancer Center, you will care for interventional pulmonary patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

You will experience the full breadth of interventional pulmonary procedures during your training including:

  • Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
  • Electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (SuperDimension, Veran)
  • Laser debridement using YAG, CO2 and Homium
  • Cryodebridment
  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
  • Medical Thoracoscopy
  • Rigid bronchoscopy
  • Airway dilation and stent placement

You'll receive a minimum of nine months of direct clinical training and 44 half-day clinics. This guarantees the necessary procedural experience to sit for the AABIP boards.

Scholarly Activity

Fellows actively participate in a research project during training, and we encourage you to partner with our investigators. You’ll contribute to research progress and learn how to develop, run, and perform statistical analysis for investigations. Most fellows deliver at least one national-level presentation at a prominent meeting, such as AABIP or Chest.

You'll also have opportunities to teach pulmonary and critical care fellows and internal medicine residents throughout your fellowship.
