Research

Our overall objective is to find novel approaches to understanding, detecting, and treating device-associated infections. On the surface of medical devices, bacteria and fungi can adhere and proliferate as biofilms of surface-associated, resilient cells. These communities are often resistant to antimicrobials and extraordinarily difficult to eradicate. The host immune responses are frequently ineffective. Little is known about how biofilms resist killing by the immune system. Our laboratory examines host-biofilm interactions using model pathogen Candida albicans.

Lab Opportunities

There are many opportunities for graduate students, undergraduate students, medical students, post-docs, medical residents, and fellows to participate in research projects. Please contact Jeniel Nett at jenett@medicine.wisc.edu regarding ongoing projects and applying for a position.
