Professional Activities

Dr. Spiel is a faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastroenterology and the Obesity Medicine Association.

Clinical Specialties

Dr. Spiel specializes in the diagnosis and management of general gastrointestinal diseases including colon cancer screening. Additionally, he has special training in the area of endoscopic bariatric therapy with a special interest in metabolic and endoscopic weight loss therapies, including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and intragastric balloons, and a focus on caring for patients who have had weight loss surgery. Dr. Spiel'ss strategy surrounding effective weight loss is to facilitate a discussion about weight and create a dialogue leading to individualized strategies for patients.
