With sorrow, members of the Department of Medicine and the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism note the untimely death of Preaw Hanseree, MD, former Endocrinology fellow. Dr. Hanseree, age 33, was killed in a traffic collision in India on September 22, 2017.

Dr. Hanseree earned her medical degree at the Ramathibodi Hospital Faculty of Medicine in 2007, graduating with first class honors. She also was the recipient of the Han Foundation Academic Scholarship, and was honored for her summer research projects.

After medical school she served as an internist at Pranakron Sri Ayutthaya Hospital in Thailand. Dr. Hanseree then became a general practitioner at Nonkhun Hospital in Sisaket, Thailand, where she provided medical care in the hospital's outpatient clinic, inpatient ward, emergency department, and mobile clinic services.

Dr. Hanseree also served as vice-chair of the Medical Executive Committee, chair of the Improvement Performance Organization, and head of the Hospital Infection Control Committee, and coordinated the infectious disease clinic, substance abuse, and community mental health services. From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Hanseree served as a general practitioner at Yanhee Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand in the outpatient department. She traveled to the United States to complete her fellowship training in Endocrinology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016.

"I will remember Preaw’s kindness, her soft-spoken but impactful presence, her dedication to medicine, and her smile," said Vincent Cryns, MD, professor and head, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.

"Preaw was the sweetest and kindest fellow I have had the privilege to work with," said Jennifer Poehls, MD, clinical associate professor, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. "She always went the extra mile, whether it was seeking out opportunities to expand her knowledge, presenting at national meetings, or helping out her colleagues in times of need. Dr. Hanseree's positive attitude and gentle demeanor touched the lives of many. She will be greatly missed."

The division plans to establish a lectureship in memory of Dr. Hanseree.
