Dr. Nasia Safdar: Doctors urged to stop giving patients handshakes

Dr. Nasia Safdar

Nasia Safdar, MD, PhD, associate professor, Infectious Disease, was interviewed by Milwaukee radio station WTMJ-620 AM about a study recommending against handshakes between physicians and patients.

"Since physicians are seeing physicians all day long, regardless of how good a job you do with hand hygiene, why put your patient at risk by passing something to them unwittingly," said Dr. Safdar.

"You can still greet your patient warmly, but not shake their hand."
