Dr. Ann Schmidt appointed Interim Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine
When Elizabeth Trowbridge, MD, clinical professor, General Internal Medicine, stepped into the role of interim chair of the Department of Medicine, another interim opportunity arose. Dr. Trowbridge is also Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine, which is home to 103 faculty members, 26 advanced practice providers, and 11 staff. While Dr. Trowbridge is at the helm of the department, Ann Schmidt, MD (pictured above, at left), clinical professor, will be serving as interim chief of the division.
Dr. Schmidt has been the medical director of the UW Health West Towne Clinic since 2006, and has been affiliated with the division since 1990. After earning her medical degree at UW-Madison, Dr. Schmidt completed her residency in internal medicine at UW Hospital and Clinics. A coveted internist at UW Health, she has received the UW Health Patient Experience Physician Champion award twice and been listed among Best Doctors in America multiple times. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and was the 2015 recipient of the Jeffrey E. Grossman, MD Professionalism Award in the Department of Medicine as well as the 2014 Faculty Excellence in Professionalism Award by the Division of General Internal Medicine. Earlier this month, Dr. Schmidt received the Department of Medicine Mentoring Excellence Award.
“It is an honor to step into the role of interim chief of the division,” said Dr. Schmidt. “This is an amazing community of interns, APPs, and residents devoted to primary care, as well as dedicated and detail-oriented staff members. It is energizing and inspiring to help build connections among all of our talented members during this time of transition.”
“I am delighted at Ann’s willingness to serve as interim chief. The division is in exceptionally capable hands, and the General Internal Medicine community is grateful for her wise guidance,” said Dr. Trowbridge.
