Acute Care Hospitalist Medicine Service

  • We have four daytime faculty and four nurse practitioners who are devoted to caring for inpatient medical patients
  • This includes oversight of the Medical Intermediate Care Unit and the care of patients requiring prolonged ventilator support
  • We work with a multi-disciplinary team of providers to provide high-quality care that coordinates closely with the patient's primary care provider
  • We have two nighttime faculty scheduled that allows us provide 24 hour, 7 day a week in-house coverage

General Medicine Consult Service

  • This service includes one hospitalist and one senior resident providing expert consultative and co-management care hospital-wide
  • Comanagement and/or consultation for medically complicated surgical inpatients

Education

  • Our hospitalists attend on the general medical ward, working with residents and medical students on our teaching service. We currently staff approximately one third of the inpatient teaching services
  • Our hospitalists have developed a hospitalist elective for residents and students, and maintain the general medicine consult curriculum

Research

  • Many staff members participate in Health Services Research and have published numerous papers over the years

Quality Improvement

  • We work closely with the hospital to assist with quality improvement projects
  • Two faculty members currently serve as Physician Advisors with a large role in utilization review
  • Many of our hospitalists are active on a variety of hospital committees
  • Current active projects include initiatives aimed at transitions of care, the discharge process, interdisciplinary rounds, charting, and electronic documentation
