UW MED FNDTN CENTENNIAL BLDGDr. Micah Chan is a faculty member of the Division of Nephrology within the Department of Medicine. He is the director of Interventional Nephrology and the Clinical Chief. He has been named a “Top Doctor” by Madison Magazine multiple years. Dr. Chan is a referee for over 20 publications and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He serves as an FDA reviewer for Office of Orphan Products Development (OOPD), is a member of the ASDIN Clinical Practice Committee and Curriculum Committee Chair, and an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Vascular Access and an Editor of PLOS One Academic. Dr. Chan is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, American College of Physicians and the American Society of Diagnostic Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN).
Dr. Chan’s clinical focus is the prevention, evaluation and treatment of chronic kidney disease, with special interest in interventional nephrology procedures such as angioplasty, Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter Placement or Removal, Stent Placement for Dialysis Access, Thrombectomy. He is ASDIN certified in interventional nephrology with special expertise in hemodialysis catheters.

Dr. Chan’s research interests involve investigating vascular access outcomes, early referral patterns, health literacy, shared decision making and health information technology for CKD patients. Dr. Chan is currently involved in a broad range of clinical outcomes research and is local PI in the multi-center Post-Approval Study for the FLAIR Endovascular Stent Graft (RENOVA). He is also PI on multiple grant-supported investigator initiated clinical trials. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. PI on RCT’s testing efficacy and safety of maintenance treatment of anemia for patients with CKD. Dr. Chan is currently involved in a broad range of clinical research in interventional nephrology. With his colleagues, he plans to improve vascular access for hemodialysis patients with novel methods of treatment and prevention.
