David Murray received his medical degree from University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and then a cardiovascular fellowship at the University of California in San Diego, California. He joined the faculty at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1992 serving as the Medical Director of the Cardiac Transplantation/CHF. He joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin Heart Failure and Transplant Program in 2004 as an Associate Professor of Medicine. He is the Medical Director of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant at the William S. Middleton Veteran's Memorial Hospital.
While in San Antonio, he received American Heart Association National Grant-in-Aid funding to investigate the mechanism of tumor necrosis factor alpha induced ventricular dysfunction in the intact animal. His work has been published in Circulation, Circulation Research and Cardiovascular Research. He served as principal investigator for several multi-center clinical trials designed to investigate novel pharmacologic and device based therapies for congestive heart failure.
