What is your primary professional focus in any or all of our mission areas (clinical, research, and/or medical education)?
I focus on clinical care right now, but a large part of the reason I came to UW was to get more involved in education with residents, as well as medical students. I’m looking forward to getting into that with the upcoming year.
What drew you to UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I did residency here from 2009-2012, and still know a lot of the General Internal Medicine docs here. I was at SSM Health Dean Medical Group in the interim, but now I’m looking to do more teaching, and I know that UW is a great place to be, with great people.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I’m not working, I like biking, cooking, playing catch with our two sons, reading, and being a part of our local church community.
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
I’ve received a lot of great advice over the years from various colleagues (like Joan Addington-White, and some seasoned veterans at Dean like Al Musa and Bob Alt), but the thing I’ve taken to heart the most is how important it is to take time with my kids and when they’re young and take care of my wife in the midst of medical training and the early stages of my career.
