New faculty Q&A: Dr. Samuel Trump
Samuel Trump, MD
Assistant Professor
General Internal Medicine
What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
I spend most of my time practicing outpatient primary care, with a few weeks a year attending on the inpatient general medicine wards. I’ll also be involved with medical student and resident education and a bit of QI and research as well.
What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I was drawn to this department by all of the wonderful and kind people I met during the interview process, and by the value that the institution places on having strong primary care. I also love the city of Madison and am thrilled to be able to join my fiancé Alma here as she continues her OB/GYN residency at UW.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I’m excited to start building what I hope to be long term relationships with patients on my primary care panel. I’m also eager to both expand upon prior work I’ve done and explore new avenues with medical education and research.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love playing and writing music and singing in choral groups. I do a lot of cooking and baking. I unfortunately follow a lot of bad sports teams and spend too much time watching them and hoping they’ll get better someday…
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
Growing up, my mom always said to my brother and me before we would leave the house, “Remember who you are” – i.e. stay grounded in your values and stay true to yourself, no matter the day or the circumstances.
