Get to know Dr. Erin Plews-Ogan
Erin Plews-Ogan, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor
Hospital Medicine
What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
I have a range of interests and am still honing them, but at the moment I am interested in improving outcomes for patients with advanced chronic disease who are frequently admitted (communication and coordination with PCPs, home visits, PHP service model, etc.); how we understand and talk about hope in advanced neurodegenerative disease (specifically ALS); and caring for patients with substance use disorder.
What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I wanted to work at a strong academic medical center that serves both an urban and rural population and is the gold standard of care in the region. My husband is from Madison originally, and his parents still live here. He matched for residency here and is currently an intern in emergency medicine at the University of Wisconsin (UW).
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am excited to continue to get to know my colleagues and learn from them. I'm especially looking forward to working on the PHP service and with the Home-Based Hospital Care.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love exploring different parks with my two-year-old son and running the trails in the various nature preserves in the area.
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
My dad's mantra was "let your imagination lead." This has guided me every step of the way when I've been unsure of the next step to take.
