Shellie Ellis, PhD

Visiting Professor
Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care

What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
My primary focus is research.

What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I was really impressed with the vision the department had for creating research infrastructure around health services research and implementation science. Several faculty at UW–Madison have been leaders in the field of implementation science, making really important contributions to the field and being quite influential in ensuring NIH policy makes a space for implementation science in research infrastructure across the country, essentially spreading the Wisconsin Idea everywhere.

What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
Everyone I have met is incredibly collaborative and willing to consider new ideas.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love to garden, growing both flowers and vegetables, and am constantly improving the landscape. I’m also a big fan of middle school and high school soccer and performing arts at this stage of my life.

Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
Love the process rather than the outcome!
