Danish Saleh, MD, PhD

Clinical Assistant Professor
Cardiovascular Medicine

What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
Research has been a fundamental part of my training. I have come to appreciate that the clinical context informs investigation/research, which, in turn, finds application and meaning in clinical care. Although my focus is clinical at the moment, I continue to be motivated by investigation. Diversifying my practice to include some time for investigation would be an ideal outcome. There are so many clinically meaningful questions to explore in cardiology.

What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
The community. The people at UW and in the city of Madison are hardworking but also warm and kind. These traits are not only attractive for young faculty but also desirable for a young family. These qualities were an important draw for myself and my family in choosing UW and Madison, respectively.

What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
My goal for my first year in practice within this department is to get to know the people around me, the resources available to me (from a clinical and research standpoint), and to get to know myself as an independently practicing cardiologist.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
The bulk of my time is invested in my children. I have a 4-year-old son named Paxton and a 1-year-old daughter named Lakelyn. Much of the time outside of work is dedicated to preparing these kids to fill our home with Little League championship titles.

Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
Shortly after my son was born, I encountered an elderly patient who told me the following: “Give him (referring to my son) as many hugs and kisses as you can.”
