Get to know Dr. Ali Mrad

Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
My primary professional focus is on clinical care and medical education, with a particular emphasis on interstitial lung disease. I also work in the intensive care unit alongside students, residents and fellows.
What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I was drawn to UW–Madison by its strong academic environment, the career development opportunities it offers, and its reputation as a highly respected institution. The convenient location was also a bonus.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I'm most excited about integrating into the clinical team, building relationships with colleagues, and contributing to the care of a diverse and complex patient population. I'm also looking forward to further developing my skills in both pulmonology and critical care.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, participating in various activities, and exploring new places.
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
One piece of advice that has always stayed with me is: "Treat your patients as if they were your own family members." It reminds me to lead with empathy and provide care that is both thoughtful and compassionate.
