Kelly Biermann, DO
Clinical Assistant Professor
Infectious Disease
What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
Clinically, I practice general infectious disease and see patients with all varieties of infection—bacterial, fungal, parasitic. From a research standpoint, my focus is on antibiotic stewardship and I work part time for Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WI DHS) as the antibiotic stewardship coordinator. I also enjoy medical education and working with learners/trainees.
What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I did my fellowship here at UW and really enjoyed the environment as a whole. Everyone is very collegial and there is exciting work being done in many divisions. People are kind and approachable while also being leaders in their field!
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I'm looking forward to broadening my clinical expertise as well as working with WI DHS as the antibiotic stewardship coordinator. I'm excited to help people across the state to make the better choices around antibiotic use.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love spending time with my family and enjoying the great outdoors! I enjoy traveling both locally and abroad, learning new things and seeing new places.
