Effective April 1, 2024, Dudley Lamming, PhD, associate professor, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, will become the Department of Medicine’s next Vice Chair for Biomedical Research.

“I am looking forward to working with Dr. Schnapp, the faculty, and the Office of Research Services team to elevate the science and expand the culture of inquiry within the department,” said Dr. Lamming.

The Vice Chair for Biomedical Research promotes and supports the mission of discovery and collaboration in the department, helps train the next generation of laboratory-based researchers, is the primary departmental liaison to basic science departments across campus, and guides the recruitment and professional development of our scientists and basic science-oriented faculty.

Dr. Lamming’s nationally recognized, National Institutes of Health-funded research program focuses on harnessing nutrient-responsive signaling pathways to promote health and longevity. Understanding and manipulating these pathways through dietary, pharmaceutical, or genetic interventions may provide insight into the treatment of age-related diseases, including diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and cancer.

He takes over the role from Joshua Lang, MD, MS, associate professor, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, who held the position since its creation in February 2021.
