Professional Activities

Dr. Ryan Powell is a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology within the Department of Medicine. He is the Associate Director for Social Science at the University of Wisconsin Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR). 

Dr. Powell also serves as the chair for the Precision Public Health Forum—an open, collaborative, multidisciplinary monthly meeting where experts from basic science, clinical, sociobehavioral, and policy communities work on precision public health initiatives and share their work and perspectives.

Dr. Ryan Powell is dedicated to promoting improved health for everyone by facilitating, guiding, and promoting interdisciplinary collaborative science that leads to new research discoveries and practical ways to address the causes of health disparities. 

His research broadly concerns how social and environmental conditions and contexts over a lifetime (the exposome) affect brain health. This includes identifying the roles that occupation (particularly the military exposome) has on influencing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.
