Professional Activities

Dr. Hasmeena Kathuria is the Jan and Kathryn Ver Hagen Professor of Translational Research in Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine. She is also the Director of the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Tobacco Treatment and Intervention (UW-CTRI).

She is a practicing pulmonologist, an implementation science researcher, and an expert in tobacco dependence treatment. She has served as chair of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) Tobacco Action Committee and is the Section Editor for the Tobacco Treatment section, UpToDate. Dr. Kathuria has made significant contributions to advancing policy initiatives and to the development of evidence-based guidelines for tobacco treatment.

Clinical Specialties

Dr. Kathuria's clinical interests include lung cancer screening, tobacco treatment, and chronic pulmonary conditions.

Research Interests

Dr. Kathuria's research interests are in improving tobacco treatment for patients in all clinical settings, regardless of clinical diagnosis and readiness to stop smoking. Her expertise is in developing and directing tobacco treatment programs and implementing research studies within the context of clinical care, and in recruiting and conducting intervention trials within clinical settings. Dr. Kathuria serves as MPI on a recently funded multi-centered PCORI-funded tobacco treatment study.
