Dr. Yvonne Huang is a faculty member and chief of the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine. She joined the University of Wisconsin after 11 years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she was recognized with a Distinguished Clinical and Translational Research Mentor Award. She has served on numerous committees for funding agencies and professional societies, nationally and internationally, including the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI).
Dr. Huang is board-certified in pulmonary medicine. Before her current role, she maintained an outpatient practice caring for adults with cystic fibrosis.
Dr. Huang is internationally recognized for her research on host-microbiome interactions in asthma and COPD. Her translational research program combines clinical research methods (patient cohorts), laboratory studies, and computational approaches, including analysis of multi-omic data (e.g., metagenomics, meta-transcriptomics, metabolomics, and single-cell data). Her research has uncovered novel links between the airway microbiome and differences in disease phenotypes and outcomes, including treatment response in asthma. Her work has been funded by NIH (R01, U01) and industry partners as investigator-initiated studies.
