Professional Activities

Dr. Freddy Caldera is the Yehle Family Professor in IBD Research and a faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine. He is also serves as the Gastroenterology and Hepatology division's Vice Chair of Clinical Research. He is a recipient of the 2016 American Gastroenterology Association’s Certificate of Recognition Early Stage Investigator Award and is Medical Director of the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of America Patient Support Group. Dr. Caldera is a member of many professional organizations including the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Society for Gastroenterology Endoscopy. He is also a journal reviewer for Digestive Disease Science, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Crohn’s & Colitis 360 and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.

Dr. Caldera is a physician-scientist with a research program that spans vaccine safety and immunogenicity in immunocompromised populations, pharmacoepidemiology, and preventive care strategies for patients with IBD. He is the founder and director of the Caldera Lab, whose mission is to evaluate the safety of medications used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. He is a co-author of the American College of Gastroenterology preventive care guidelines and is widely recognized for his contributions to improving the safety and quality of IBD care.
