Professional Development Support

The Department of Medicine Education Committee offers grants of up to $5,000 to support professional development for faculty, staff, trainees, and postdocs.

To be eligible for funding, applicants must show how the proposed activity will strengthen education programs or initiatives within the Department of Medicine.

Eligibility and Application

Examples of requests we will consider include:

  • Travel expenses for conferences or professional meetings not funded by your division
  • Tuition or registration fees for a professional development course or program

 

Who May Apply?
  • Department of Medicine faculty and staff (with a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine)
  • Trainees sponsored by Department of Medicine faculty
  • Postdocs sponsored by Department of Medicine faculty
When and How to Apply
  1. Complete the application form.
  2. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
  3. If your application is approved to move forward, you will receive an email asking you to submit:
    1. Your current CV or resume
    2. A budget showing how and when the funds will be used
    3. A letter of support from your division head or supervisor explaining how the request supports your professional development and career goals


After you submit these materials, the Department of Medicine Education Committee will review your proposal. The committee meets monthly, and applicants are notified of funding decisions shortly after each meeting.

How Will Applications be Reviewed?
  • The Chair of the DOM Education Committee reviews each application to make sure it aligns with DOM educational initiatives.
  • If the application moves forward, it is assigned to one or more committee members for review.
  • Reviewers evaluate the application using the criteria listed below and share their recommendations with the committee.
  • The committee discusses the application and votes on whether to fund it and, if approved, how much funding to provide.
  • The number of applications funded each year depends on available funds.
Criteria for Review

Applications will be reviewed based on:

  • The value of the faculty development opportunity to your professional growth, the department, or the broader educational community.
  • How the opportunity could strengthen or expand education programs within the department.
  • A clear and well-justified budget.
  • A letter of support that explains how the opportunity aligns with your career goals.
