Dr. Mathur's clinical interests include Asthma, Hypereosinophilic Syndromes (including Eosinophilic Esophagitis), and Chronic Urticaria. He is the Director of Allergy and Immunology Clinics and the Chief of Allergy at the VA Hospital, and he sees patients in the Allergy and Immunology Clinic at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics West Clinic location.

Research Interests

Eosinophil immunoregulatory activity. Dr. Mathur is studying in vitro co-cultures of human peripheral blood eosinophils and epithelial cells to identify mechanisms by which eosinophils can regulate epithelial responses to innate immune stimuli and viruses.

Asthma in older adults. As one ages, it has been shown that immune cell functions can change, often with a decrease in functional activity, which is termed "immunosenescence". Dr. Mathur has been recruiting older and younger asthma subjects to determine whether this immunosenescence influences airway inflammation, the clinical presentation of asthma, and the therapeutic implications for the older asthma patient.
