Reviewing scansThe Department of Medicine has over 350 faculty members divided in research, education and clinical tracks so that all of our missions can be accomplished by individuals who have a passion for their area of emphasis. Our faculty have extensive experience in education. Members of our department direct 40% of the preclinical courses of the School of Medicine and Public Health and three faculty serve as associate deans. Faculty development programs and preclinical and clinical teaching opportunities have allowed our faculty to become highly experienced educators. Faculty at UW enjoy and have a strong commitment to residency education, greatly enhancing our residents' learning experiences. Many of our faculty members have received national awards and honors for their accomplishments. For example: our Program Director has received the ACGME Parker Palmer Courage to Teach Award; James Stein, a member of our Cardiology faculty has received the American College of Cardiology W. Proctor Harvey Young Teacher Award for Excellence in Teaching; and Molly Carnes, Director of the UW Center for Women's Health Research, has received awards from the National Association for Women in Science and the AAMC Women's Leadership Award. Our faculty have also had leadership roles and served on key committees for NIH, NSF, AAMC, ABIM, IOM, and the Academic Alliance for Internal Medicine (AAIM).
