Summary of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conferences


Case Conference

Case Conference is a weekly conference during the academic year (September to June). Fellows rotate responsibility for scheduled presentation of 2 to 3 cases as unknowns and prepare a corresponding topic presentation. At least one of the presented cases is intended to correlate with the GI/Hepatology Grand Rounds visiting professor's topics.

Grand Rounds

Grand Rounds is a weekly conference during the academic year (September to June) and consists of presentations of clinical or basic science aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The speakers are chosen from among the faculty of the Division, the School of Medicine and Public Health, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Approximately once per month the speaker will be a distinguished scientist/educator who is invited as a Visiting Professor.

Visiting Professor

Corresponding with invited guest speakers for the GI/Hepatology Grand Rounds, fellows meet with visiting faculty in an informal setting to discuss GI/Hepatology pathophysiology and fellow or career issues.

Journal Club

Journal Club is held once per month during the academic year (September to June). Fellows rotate responsibility for selection and presentation of a recently published article of interest. Fellow presentation utilizes powerpoint for topic background, printed article, and discussion.

Summer Didactic Lecture Series

Formal lectures are given by the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Faculty from core topics for the summer months (July - early September). In addition to core topics, lectures on preparing case conference presentations, including creating slides, performing thorough literature review, developing their presentation style and how to encourage audience participation is included.

Guiding Principles in Gastroenterology

Discussion of current GI guidelines and practices by Program Director (PD) and faculty experts.

Hepatobiliary Conference

Hepatobiliary Conference is a weekly multidisciplinary conference combining Gastroenterology, Oncological surgery, Radiology, and Medical Oncology. Active cases are submitted and presented by primary surgical service. Group discussion and consensus building are revealed.

Liver Didactic Conference

Dr. Lucey and the Transplant Hepatology Fellow lead weekly discussion of selected hepatology topics, AASLD Guidelines, or current articles.
