Clinical Care

The Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine provides a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory disorders and/or critial illness in the outpatient, acute and critical care settings, including:

Critical Care Services

Pulmonary Services 

General Pulmonary Medicine and Sub Speciatly Clinics for complex disease

Comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation programs that may be continued in the patient's community hospital.  

Pulmonary Function Testing

Interventional Pulmonology / Diagnostic Procedures

Sleep Medicine

Clinical interests of our faculty include:

  • acute and chronic respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary and neuromuscular disease
  • critical care medicine, including adult respiratory distress syndrome
  • immunologic and hypersensitivity lung diseases, including asthma, sarcoidosis, interstitial fibrosis and pulmonary vasculitis
  • diagnosis of infections and neoplastic diseases of the lung
  • ventilatory control during wakefulness, exercise and sleep with specific clinical applications in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neuromuscular disease and sleep apnea
  • epidemiology and pathophysiology of occupational lung diseases
  • mechanisms of acute and chronic lung injury, including adult respiratory distress syndrome
  • immunologic mediators of lung injury as seen in asthma, sarcoidosis and interstitial fibroses and pulmonary vasculitis

Education

The UW Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Program is Accredited by the ACGME.  In addition, we offer  an Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship.  We also participate in the clinical training of Internal Medicine and Anesthesia residents, as well as teaching Medical Students in the Respiratory Sciences.   For more information on the programs:

Research

We have active research programs in Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Sleep Disordered Breathing, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Inflammation, Infectious Diseases of the Lung, Critical Care Outcomes and Lung Cancer.  We are funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Vererans Affairs, Private Foundations and Industry.
