Inquiry and Innovation

Research is a core component of the University of Wisconsin Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship. With support from investigators in our division, department and campus, you’ll contribute to research progress and learn how to develop, run, and and perform statistical analysis for investigations.

Personalized Research Experience

We structure the research experience to support your individual career goals.

  • February/March of your first year: Learn about research projects available, select a mentor and clarify your research goals
  • Start of second year: Use additional research blocks to get more involved in research and dedicated time to conduct research, author papers, present and work towards publication
  • Third year: Expand, individualize and present your project, and work towards publication

Protected Time

Our program structure provides you with the following protected time for research:

  • approximately 10% time in the first year
  • approximately 30% in the second year
  • approximately 50% in the third year

If you have a strong desire to pursue research, we will tailor your second- and third-year blocks to accommodate.
