Professional Activities

Dr. Kaufman is a faculty member in Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Previously, she was a faculty member at the University of Iowa and a staff physician with the Department of Health and Human Service, where she practiced at the Sells Indian Hospital in Sells, Arizona and with the Indian Health Service in Tucson, Arizona. She also served as staff physician in Sanford, North Carolina.

Honors and awards presented to Dr. Kaufman include the Southern Arizona Federal Executive Associate Public Service Award, the Federal Women's Sells PHS Hospital Provider of the year, the Office of Health Program Research and Development (OHPRD) Outstanding Professional Employee Award, student recognition for teaching excellence in clinical medicine, and designation as a University of Iowa Teaching Scholar. She is currently a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of General Internal Medicine.

Dr. Kaufman's teaching activities include serving as a shadowing instructor for medical students at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. As a staff member in the UW Internal Medicine Residency Continuity Clinic, she guides trainees. She currently serves on the Quality and Practice Improvement Committee.

Clinical Specialties

Dr. Kaufman's clinical interests include internal medicine. She has delivered clinical presentations on a wide range of topics including glomus tumors, primary care psychiatry, motivational interviewing, promoting behavior change in the primary care setting, and diabetes management.

Research Interests

Dr. Kaufman's research interests include diabetes, nutrition, retinal examination, and medical education.
