Dr. Ahmed Akhter is a faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine. He has been designated as an American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Ambassador and AASLD Emerging Liver Scholar, received the David Wissler Memorial Award for clinical study in gastroenterology in both 2017 and 2018 from the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and received the 2018 Dickie Research Award from the Department of Medicine. He was selected for the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Akhter provides clinical and classroom instruction to medical students, residents, and fellows.
Dr. Akhter’s clinical interests include hepatology and advanced endoscopy.
Dr. Akhter’s research focuses on clinical trials of pharmacologic agents in liver disease (e.g., non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) and evaluation of diagnostic ultrasound methods for disease states including cirrhosis and rectal cancer.
