Professional Activities

Dr. Mark Micek is a faculty member of the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine. He is also a UW Health clinical service chief and medical director at the UW Health East Internal Medicine Clinic. He maintains a faculty appointment at the University of Washington School of Public Health in the Department of Global Health, and previously served as an advisor to HIV and TB programs in Mozambique, Africa. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society.

Dr. Micek has served as an internal medicine clerkship mentor for 3rd-year medical students in the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, a preceptor in internal medicine resident continuity clinics, and a preceptor for the Patient, Doctor, and Society course for first- and second-year medical students. He is a member of the UW General Internal Medicine Scholars' Group and served as a reviewer for pilot grants administered by the division.

Clinical Specialties

Dr. Micek's clinical interests include internal medicine. He has served on several clinical guideline committees with the UW Health Center for Clinical Knowledge Management (CCKM), including committees devoted to preventive health, secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, management of chronic left ventricular systolic heart failure, and standard rooming criteria. He has also served on a UW Health Primary Care Redesign committee and two Primary Care Redesign workgroups.

Research Interests

Dr. Micek's areas of research include use of the electronic health record (EHR) and its effects on clinician wellness and burnout. He is also a member of UW Primary Care Academics Transforming Healthcare (PATH), a collaborative focused on evaluating and disseminating efforts to improve primary care health systems at UW.
