Customized Training for the Career You Want

Comprehensive clinical experience plus robust opportunities for research and teaching give you the skills you need for the career you want.

Didactic Experiences

We deliver a robust education program through our division conferences. You'll learn from expert faculty and also build teaching skills via peer-led conferences.

You'll also gain valuable hands-on experience during our diabetes technology interactive sessions.

Clinical Experiences

Outpatient training, both required and elective, takes place at clinics at UW Health and at the Williams S. Middleton Veterans Memorial Hospital. You'll participate in general endocrinology clinics and multidisciplinary specialty clinics, such as our thyroid nodule evaluation clinic, osteoporosis clinic, pituitary clinic and PCOS clinic. A two-year weekly continuity clinic allows you to build longitudinal relationships and develop increased autonomy by caring for your own panel of patients.

Inpatient training occurs on the UW Health diabetes and endocrinology and diabetes consult service, where faculty, fellows, residents and students provide consultative care to hospitalized patients. This works in parallel with a large and efficient APP-run inpatient diabetes management service.

We also teach you how to interpret laboratory tests and endocrine imaging studies (e.g., radiologic, radionuclide, and ultrasound), perform fine needle aspiration of the thyroid, and communicate effectively with referring health care providers.

Scholarly Activity

We offer basic and clinical research opportunities within our division and through collaborations with world-class researchers across campus. We give you the time and support needed to complete research projects that lead to publications and national presentations.

We also believe that fellows are both learners and teachers. You'll play an active role in peer education within the fellowship and with rotating residents and students. You can also build your teaching portfolio by facilitating medical student small group case discussions.
