The electrophysiology program (EP) at the University of Wisconsin offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.  The EP team performs a full range of invasive procedures for treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.  In addition to pacemakers, defibrillators and ablations for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), we offer the latest in technology to treat arrhythmias including:

  • Complex left atrial ablation, including atrial fibrillation ablation
  • Ventricular tachycardia (including epicardial) ablations
  • Laser-assisted lead extraction with more than 80 procedures performed annually
  • Minimally invasive surgical ablation
  • Inherited Arrhythmias Clinic – offers screening and assistance with diagnosis of rare genetic causes of arrhythmias (includes a dedicated genetics counselor)
  • Faint and Fall Clinic – a multiple disciplinary clinic for timely evaluation of patients with unexplained syncope or falls
  • Left atrial appendage closure using the Lariat™ device

The electrophysiology program provides an outpatient clinic as well as an inpatient consultation service.  We perform over 300 ablation procedures per year and over 400 device implantations.  The outpatient clinics at both the UW and Atrium follow more than 1500 patients with pacemakers and ICDs.  The Heart Station performs nearly 32,000 ECGs, more than 2,200 exercise stress ECGs and 250 Holter and arrhythmia analysis studies annually.  By offering the full range of inpatient and outpatient cardiac electrophysiology services the program at UW seeks to provide the highest level of care in a cost-effective manner.
